“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” – Desmond Tutu
Polio is a highly infectious disease which paralyze and kill people. Although there is no cure, Polio is preventable with a safe and effective vaccine.
Rotary is a leading organization in fighting against the Polio disease. Rotary is highly dedicated to eradicating Polio globally by, not only improving the vaccine uptake for Polio, but also raising awareness about the disease and raising funds too.
The challenge is, of course, far too large for any organization. Eradicating a disease is a big job and we need help. This is why we carry out our work in close partnership with another organization, such as the All Home Stores. We distribute Coin Banks to several branches of All Home Stores that collect donations from their shoppers. We have distributed over a hundred Coin Banks to the counters of All Home.
This fundraising event does not only help Rotary make funds for the End Polio campaign, but also spread awareness about the Polio disease and the need to end it now. We encourage people to donate and be part of our campaign.
This remarkable partnership started in 2017, during the presidency of Great President Rowena L. Dela Cruz. Since then, the club celebrates World Polio Day yearly by parading from one branch of All Home to another, while collecting the Coin Banks and replacing them with the new ones. This year, it was led by yours truly Life Changing President, Rogel Cacdac.
Like in the past years, our club went to All Home branches, wearing our End Polio Now T-shirts, to collect the Coin Banks from the previous year and replacing them with new ones. We parade around the mall with our banners, spreading awareness about Polio and Rotary. We culminated the World Polio Day with a fellowship.
We make Polio a topic of conversation in our community. Many have heard of Polio but only few know that the disease still affects children around the world. Hence, we tell people that Polio is a life-threatening disease, but can be prevented through a vaccine.
Millions of children still must receive their polio vaccines. Until we End Polio forever, every child is at risk. The donations will save lives and give children a chance at a healthy future.
