LCP Myla Tarriela

I joined Rotary because my brother, then Visionary President now IPP Leody “Odie” Tarriela recruited me in 2013. I used to think I wasn’t suitable for this organization because I am a quiet type of person and in my mind it is just for mature people.

When I was a teenager, I joined the church choir, legionaries and we go house-to-house to convince people who has not received the sacrament of marriage and baptism. This was my favorite activity then. During my elementary and high school years, I was always the leader of a team, or participating in contests, my teachers trusted me to manage group activities, and I was also the treasurer from grade school until high school. That was my training and I am used to interacting with a lot of people, so when I joined the Rotary I could easily follow the works and services I should perform in the community. I was the Club Treasurer for 8 years before I was elected as Club President.

On July 3, together with my classmates were formally inducted by our Governor Robert Koa. My new recruits, Ralph Tarriela and Michael dela Torre also attended the District Handover and Induction Ceremonies. It was overwhelming experience and I said to myself this is it pancit, umpisa na!

Last July 4, I attended and co-hosted the District 3810 Kick-off project “Rotary Tree,” A tree planting project in Maragondon, Cavite. Our Club Secretary/SDG Babes Calledo and Rtn. Rene Calledo accompanied me in this project. I enjoyed my first face-to-face with my classmates and was able to take a lot of pictures with them and the District officers. On the same date our club co-hosted the “Dugong Matulungin Dugong Makatao”, a bloodletting project of Rotary Club of Chinatown Circle in Fortune, Marikina City.

My first time to preside the meeting was on July 10, when the bell and gavel were handed over to me by Transformational President Ariel Dimalibot. Congratulations IPP Ariel for placing our club as the 3rd Most Outstanding Club in District 3810 for RY 2020-2021.

I discussed with the club my proposed projects for this month. Our Club Chairman for Membership PP Maribel Sanchez presented to the club the ABCs of Rotary Prior to Oath Taking and the Proposed Guidelines In Membership Qualifications of Our club. Our members had a refresher course on what Rotary is all about. The true meaning of Rotary which is an organization of business and professional united worldwide who provided humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

We hope to recruit quality members in our club who are willing to share their talents, time, and treasure.
