Rotary Club of Lubang Island
It is as if it were only yesterday when the Transformational Presidents were starting their terms at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now twelve months have passed, and we are facing our Life-Changing Year.
It is a new beginning for Life-Changing Presidents like me. I have been a member of the Rotary Club of Lubang Island (RCLI) for more than 10 years, but it is only now that I was persuaded by my club members to serve at the helm of our club. It has been a long and agonizing decision for me to become President of our club, what with all the multi-awarded past presidents in our roster. The different seminars I attended, like the Presidents-Elect Training Seminar, The Rotary Foundation Grant Management, and Stewardship Seminar, the Assistant Governor District Training Seminar, and the District Training Assembly, will help me in the months ahead to face and lead my club in changing the lives of others. I know that there will be many struggles, but I have always said to my co-Rotarians, Let’s enjoy Rotary. With the help of my colleagues in RCLI and guidance from our Almighty Father, I know I can make it.
First Order of Business – Club Planning
As is customary in our club, we start the year with Club Planning. On June 11, 2021, we had our face-to-face meeting for our Club Pre-Planning. It would have been better to have all the club members with us. But because of IATF restrictions due to the pandemic, we only had a core group comprising DG Odie Tarriela, our Transformational President Ariel Dimalibot, Service Project Chairperson PP Annie Dimalibot, Club Secretary Babes Calledo, and myself as the incoming President.
I presented to them the projects that I would like to undertake this Rotary Year 2021-2022. They made suggestions on how to go about the projects under Rotary’s 7 Areas of Focus, namely Peace Building and Conflict Prevention, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, Community Economic Development, and the Environment. These plans were presented during our meeting on June 19, 2021.
We have lined up several projects during this Rotary Year to help the community change their lives.
