PROJECT KaSaGip an acronym for KAAGAPAY sa pagSULONG ng AGRIKULTURA at GULAYAN was also launched on August 12 for the Indigenous People of Occidental Mindoro. This was conceptualized by heeding the call of the government to participate in providing solutions to attain everlasting peace in our province by empowering the IP communities and to contribute in alleviating poverty.

The RCSJ thru the leadership of LCP Ruby Alferos, tied up with the Provincial Governor of Occ. Mindoro thru Hon. Eduardo E. Gadiano and the DA, PA, DILG and PNP for this project.

KaSaGip means in tagalog dialect literally means “having part in savings one’s life which is also coincides with the RI theme “Serve to Change Lives.” The objective of this project is to provide assistance to the Former Rebels (FRs) who comprised mostly of the Indigenous People (Mangyans) during their stay in halfway house by the Philippine Army Advance Command Post at Camp Murtha, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.  The halfway house will serve as their residence that provide social, medical, psychiatric, educational and other related services.

The RCSJ proposes the construction of Mini Organic Garden inside the camp for the FRs/UOs to engage in Organic Agriculture Production NCll since farming is also their way of life.  Moreover, addressing food security is also a major concerns so that their family can also be provided of their harvest during their stay in the camp.

This Project Kasagip is aligned with the RI Areas of Focus that is Peace Prevention and Resolution, Economic Development, Basic Education and Literacy as the FRs/IPs will be train by the TESDA in ORGANIC AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION NC ll and another areas of focus which will be the Environment.

With the help of  Rtn. Ma. Belen Pantaleon who is the present Supervisor of TESDA and at the same time the RCSJ Vocational Service Chairperson, the RCSJ was able to get a 25 scholarship slots in TESDA who will provide the skills and training in organic production while the RCSJ will provide foods for the FRs/IPs trainees during their training for 29 days.  After the training, the FRs/IPs will construct a Mini Organic Garden and Poultry Production at the Advance Command in Camp Murtha in partnership with the other government agencies like the DA, PA, PNP and DILG.

In additional to the 64th Founding Anniversary’s activity, a Relief Operation due to typhoon Fabian was conducted to the affected areas in Brgy Mabini, SJOM and at the RCC Ilocandia, Brgy. Mapaya, SJOM.  The FRs/IPs were also given relief goods considering that they were also affected by typhoon Fabian.  The District 3810 thru District Governor Robert Koa gave cash donations to the Mindoro Clubs for the relief operation.

We are very thankful for the good gesture of DG Robert for helping us in Occidental Mindoro. This cash donation was really a big help.  We called this relief operation  “Timba ng Buhay” because the relief goods were placed in a “timba.”
